RE: Activities, Attractions, Dining, Rio Grande Valley TX 08-09

MoRambler, Jojolu and any others coming to the RGV. Just post it here when you want to go to Gonzales and we will meet you. Gonzales grocery store history goes back to the 1960's at least. I don't want to type the whole story of their history. Does anyone have a copy of the story of how it became a burger joint?

RE: First Christmas away, need advice

This will be our third Christmas away from the family. I think what I really miss is when the kids and grandkids were much younger. It has become more difficult for us to get the family together because of distance and inlaw commitments. So we have become comfortable with the idea of our children making their own family traditions. We talk to them almost daily and ofcourse we talk to them all on Christmas Day. I was a little sad on Chirstmas eve last year and then friends had us over for snacks and cocktails and I got over it.;) There will be many folks who are away from families that you will enjoy spending the holiday with.

RE: Activities, Attractions, Dining, Rio Grande Valley TX 08-09

We arrived in the RGV this afternoon. So glad to be here. We are really tired. The warm temps feel great. DonP I suppose you have already been to the Roadhouse. Gees is there going to be any good food left in the valley? We led the way to the valley in a caravan thinking we would be leaving Ron and Shirley in the dust. But old led foot (Shirley) was always just a few moho links away.:B You go girl. Fox and Bear We look forward to meeting you at McAllen airport when your guests arrive so we can go to the Roadhouse.:B

RE: San Antonio Hospital Recommendation?

Ooops! Had a senior moment last night and posted under Ron and Shirley's name. Sorry. Just talked to Shirley. They are waiting for the doctors to review Ron's records. Frustrating to both of them but they are fine. Just waiting is the hard part.

We're pretending we didn't see that photo DonP posted of the Gonzalez burger.:( We're in Fredericksburg enjoying delicious German food. Going to stop in Bandera for a couple days and should be in the valley before the first.

Gas prices enroute to south Texas

When we left home last Wednesday, the lowest price in our town for Unleaded was $2.55 per gal. We are now in El Reno, OK and paid $2.32 for unleaded at Walmart. Cheaper than we paid last year at this time. Sorry don't know diesel prices. Anyone been further south that know the prices for unlead?

RE: Winter in RVG-what to wear???

We are taking mostly shorts, tee shirts, sandals and tennis shoes. We also have packed some sweaters and light jackets and jeans. Most days were pretty nice last winter. We arrived the day before Thanksgiving and it was 90 degrees. The next day a cold front came in and we had rain and temps in the 50's for four days. It is quite often windy regardless of the temps. The weather at best is unpredictable but much warmer than home.

RE: Younger snowbirds?

We saw several under 50 couples at our park. When it comes to paying for a lot I don't think our park (Victoria Palms) is much concerned with age.

RE: Things that you can save on while gone!

I think we will save on eating out. We found dining for two in the RGV much cheaper than at home. Also lots of potlucks and impromtu Happy Hours with snacks cuts the food bill.

RE: Anyone Else Packing the Clothes Yet?

Hey Pawatt, Ron and Shirley have taught us well. We know the requirements for being good Winter Texans. ;) You and Sue will need to come by when we mix up a batch of Rita's. Leaving Wednesday and notdreading filling up the MoHo so much. Gas prices here were $2.65 per gal last night. That's less than what we paid last year. Life is good.

RE: Christmas Decorations

We have a small ceramic tree with lights, a 3 foot fiber optic tree, taking onaments with our kids and grandkids photos on them and a dancing santa. Oh yes and a door wreath. Probably pick up some rope lights somwhere along the way.

RE: Harvey House

Hey T bone. Thanks for the info on the El Charro. Are you from Waynoka? I am familiar with the history of when rail met air. DH is from Waynoka although it has been several years since we have been back there.
